How to Be a Young Curmudgeon

“Curmudgeon” traditionally means old, ill-tempered man.

The word elicits an image of Ebenezer Scrooge walking with a cane, frowning at every person who walks by.

So why would you want to be a young curmudgeon?

Curmudgeon isn’t always a pejorative. It can be a “tongue-in-cheek” compliment or personality type.

In my mind, a young curmudgeon is someone who adheres to positive traditional values and eschews modern pleasures/vices. He’s a nonconformist who adheres to abstemious traits.

A young curmudgeon goes his own way. He does what he thinks is right despite social pressure. He chooses maturity over immaturity despite his young age.

Young curmudgeons are old souls. They often get along better with people decades older rather than their young peers. They often have classic sensibilities, healthy apprehension regarding technology, and wisdom beyond their years.

Young curmudgeons are different. They’re misunderstood. They’re poked fun at.

But that’s okay, because they’re an asset to the world.

Young curmudgeons are upright, industrious people that benefit every person they touch.
